Heritage Celebrations 2024
BBK, as a community, is planning a week-long Heritage Celebration that is meant to celebrate culture in all its dimensions: i.e., cultural dance/music groups competitions, cultural food, and indigenous medicine, the 2-Day SMME Expo that includes a Farmer's Day, Sedibelo sports teams competition (from four BBK-clusters representing all the 32 villages), and youth skills development initiatives. To create a conducive environment for youth and the community across all ages, to develop an interest in their own cultural identity additional activities are being considered through a Mammitlwa festival event as an attraction for both young people and tourists during this period.
Day 1 – Official Opening
Activities on the day:
- Cleansing: Letlapa La Pula
- Official opening of the 7-day Heritage Celebrations (Mphebatho Cultural Museum)
Day 2 – SMME Exhibitions Day
The SMME Exhibition (or Supplier Day) is an access-to-market platform that brings local SMMES together with all local economic players, especially those engaged in the four key strategic areas of our BBKTA Master Plan, i.e., in mining, tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing (or trade & services).
Activities on the day:
- SMME Exhibition Stalls
- Registrations for Quality Assurance

- Information Sharing
Day 3 – Farmers Day
The exhibition day event serves as a platform to start a farmers' mobilisation campaign for identification and database development. At the moment farmers are loosely affiliated with no formal structure in place that is represented at a macro level. Individual farmers affiliate according to the village, and consequently do not have adequate visibility for a concerted campaign to organise them so that government support and access to critical information can be channelled appropriately.
