Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA), a leading provider of COID and other insurance products for employees in the mining and metals industries, has joined forces with Bakgatla ba Kgafela Investment Holdings (BBKIH) to support communities living with disabilities.

This initiative aims to provide essential assistive devices and services to individuals with disabilities, promoting independence, mobility, and overall well-being. Occupational therapist and rehabilitation manager, Pinky Aphane, emphasized the importance of this partnership: "We're committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those living with disabilities. Our goal is to empower them to live their lives to the fullest."

The initiative offers a range of assistive devices, including:

- Prescribed wheelchairs, tailored to individual needs- Walking crutches- Hearing aids- Prosthetics

In addition to these devices, the program provides mobility training for individuals who have lost their sight. Children with disabilities will also receive support and assistance.

The RMA and BBKIH team has been visiting various communities, including Mabodisa Hall, Manamakgoteng, and Mokgalwaneng. Upcoming visits are scheduled for Sefikile (November 28), Motlhabe Hall, and Magong Community Hall (November 29).

Ntate Mabone Ramalepa, a resident of Mokgalwaneng, benefited from the initiative. He arrived with a homemade walking stick and was assessed by specialists, who provided him with two walking crutches. "I'm grateful for the stability and balance these crutches will give me," he said.

Retired miners who suffered injuries on duty and have not received assistance with their disabilities are encouraged to come forward. Bedridden patients' guardians can arrange transport by contacting their local Kgosana or Lekgotla la Moruleng.

By partnering with BBKIH, RMA is demonstrating its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting inclusivity. This initiative serves as a shining example of corporate social responsibility and community empowerment.
